Intake Therapist

Department: Outpatient
Location: Southgate, MI

New Oakland Family Centers provides comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse services for consumers across Michigan, in both outpatient and partial hospitalization settings.


Location: Southgate

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm or other full-time equivalent                                            

Reports To: President / Clinical Director / Clinical Supervisor

Compensation: Salary Employee; $48,000 - $55,000/ year. Commensurate with experience. 

Position Summary: The Intake Therapist is a full-time position comprised of multiple clinical and administrative responsibilities supporting both the FACE to FACE Partial Hospitalization and Outpatient programs as needed/required.

Essential Duties / Functions: 

  • Perform initial assessments/evaluations on potential clients on a scheduled and/or emergency basis.
  • Assist in outpatient and partial hospitalization programming as needed.
  • Complete documentation as required by the clinic’s policies/procedures.
  • Attend monthly administrative/clinical meetings.
  • Complete Utilization Review assignments including but not limited to obtaining authorizations for services provided.
  • Provide high quality, compassionate and ethical outpatient mental health therapy to children, adolescents, adults and families including Person Centered Treatment Planning.
  • Actively participate as a positive member of the clinic environment.
  • Maintain good standing with the appropriate board and insurance entities.
  • Complete all required trainings and continuing education requirements to keep licensure in good standing.
  • Stay current with updated research and best practices.
  • Maintain case files within electronic medical record (EMR) that are up to date and in compliance with clinic’s policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Master’s degree and licensure in social work, counseling or psychology is required. Full licensure highly preferred. Temporary licensure cannot be considered. Must be able to work well with all types of people and all populations including children, adolescents, and adults.

Working Conditions: Staff are to dress professionally at all times following dress code policy. Staff will need to be prepared to be actively involved with consumers.

Relations to Others:

  • External: High degree of contact with clients and families both in person and on the telephone.
  • Internal: High degree of contact with other clerical and professional staff of the clinic.
